History

Mullin First Baptist Church has a long and rich heritage. According to notes written by a recent church clerk, the Mullin First Baptist Church was organized in May 1889. The first church structure was also the first church building in Mullin, Texas, and was used by other denominations until those denominations erected their own buildings. That first structure burned on a Saturday night in October 1906. The following year a new church was built in Mullin on Highway 183. Approximately 64 years later, on October 3, 1971, the groundbreaking took place for the present building, south of the former location on the highway. The first service was held on May 28, 1972. The Activity Center (a separate structure from the church with gym, bathrooms and a kitchen) was first used Sunday night, November 8, 1987. It is the current site of the Wednesday night youth ministry. The center is also used various meals and gatherings including the annual community Thanksgiving meal and the Ladies’ Christmas party and gift exchange.
